Glamping summary
The Canvas Frills Lodge at Howbeck Lodge Farm is one of the tents that are located on this working farm within the Lake District National Park. The beautiful lakes of the Lake District and nearby rivers are all on your doorstop along with a multitude of countryside walks, and quiet beaches at the Solway Firth.
Any stay at Howbeck Lodge Farm includes a tour of this working farm that the Stobart family have run for over 20 years. The farm is a traditional sheep and beef farm of around 300 acres. It is part of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme and run in a sustainable way. The livestock includes prize winning Highland cattle. In the spring, there are many lambs and a stream for paddling in, all close to the tents.
Calving happens throughout the year and so guests can see calves being born. Unfortunately, pets are not allowed on the farm due to the fauna found on and around the farm.
Glamping description
The Canvas Frills Lodge has a double bed, a bunk bed, and a single bed, sleeping a maximum of 6 guests. There is an en-suite bathroom with shower and basin, flushing toilet, deck chairs, an outdoor cooker, an extended canopy for a covered veranda, and cold running water. The lodge comes with a starter pack made up of wood for heating and cooking, starter pack candles, and lamp oil. Kitchen linen is provided and there is ample parking space.
Christine Stobart is well known around the area for her homemade produce that is available from the farm pantry. This is located in one of the barns where there are also hot showers for guests.
Between June and September there are a number of nearby agricultural shows where you can see John Stobart with his prize livestock, as he is a regular attendee and regular winner. The farm is a short walk to the village of Hesket Newmarket, which has a children's play area, a popular Old Crown Pub, a riverside walk, and the Hesket Newmarket Brewery Cooperative.
